How to move stock between Shopify locations without paying for POS Pro
Stocky stopped working on August 31, 2026, and a lot of multi-location stores went looking for a new way to move stock between their warehouse and stores. Shopify's answer is its transfers workflow, and the in-store screens for it need POS Pro at every location involved. Before you add $89 a month per location, it's worth knowing what you can already do without it.
What POS Pro adds for transfers
POS Pro is $89 a month per location, billed yearly, on top of your Shopify plan. For transfers, it lets staff work them from the POS app: create a shipment, scan items into it, mark it in transit, and receive it at the other end item by item. As of September 2026, Shopify's POS transfer screens need POS Pro at both the sending and receiving location.
A warehouse plus two stores is three locations, so $267 a month, before POS Pro's other features come into it.
What you can already do in the Shopify admin
The transfer itself doesn't need POS Pro. In the admin, under Products → Transfers, you can:
- Create a transfer with an origin, a destination and products, and save it as a draft.
- Mark it Ready to ship, which reserves the stock at the origin.
- Add shipments with a carrier, tracking number and expected arrival.
- Bulk-create transfers from a CSV.
Shopify also added stock counts to the admin on October 20, 2026: schedule a count, assign it to staff, scan barcodes and review differences before you approve changes. That covers the cycle-count part of what Stocky used to do.
The part neither one does: deciding what to move
Admin transfers and POS Pro both move stock you've already decided to move. Neither tells you that Store B is down to two of its best seller, or how many to send. Someone still opens a spreadsheet, checks each store's stock against what's left at the warehouse, and types the transfer in by hand.
That's the job I built Stockadoodl for:
- Set a min and max once per product and location, or set one rule across everything.
- Get alerted by email or Slack when a store drops below its minimum, or get a daily or weekly digest.
- Open a pre-filled transfer. The quantity is already suggested, capped at what the warehouse actually has and net of stock already promised to other open transfers. A "Why this quantity?" note shows the math, and you can edit any line before anything is created.
- Pick it. On Pro, send a picker link to whoever's pulling the stock. They scan from their phone, sorted by bin, without a Shopify login or a POS Pro seat.
- Receive it. Record each line as accepted, short or damaged. Stockadoodl receives it in Shopify, and an Exceptions page flags anything that doesn't add up.
Every transfer it creates is a real Shopify transfer, the same one you'd see under Products → Transfers.
The cost side by side

| Receive transfers | Yes, from POS | Yes | Yes, with shortage and damage notes |
| Tells you what to move | No | No | Yes, from min/max and sales pace |
| Picking from a shared phone link | No | No | Yes (Pro) |
| Cost for 3 locations | $267/mo | Included | $9.99 or $19.99/mo |
When POS Pro is still the right call
POS Pro does far more than transfers: staff roles and permissions at the register, in-store pickup, exchanges and more. If your stores need it for selling, you're paying for it anyway, so use its transfer screens. Stockadoodl still works alongside it, deciding what to send so your staff aren't building transfers from scratch.
If transfers were the only reason you were considering POS Pro, you probably don't need it. Admin transfers plus a tool that tells you what to move covers it for a fraction of the cost.
Stockadoodl is $9.99 a month, or $19.99 for Pro with sales-velocity suggestions and guided picking, both with a 7-day free trial. Moving off Stocky? Start here.
