Shopify bin locations on your ShipStation pick lists, automatically
Your bin locations live in Shopify. Your pickers work from ShipStation pick lists. ShipStation doesn't read Shopify metafields, so the bins never make it onto the sheet, and pickers hunt for stock. This sync closes that gap and keeps it closed.
How it works
- Bins stay in Shopify. Each product's bin lives in a Shopify metafield, so Shopify remains your source of truth.
- The sync writes them to ShipStation. On a schedule, it copies each bin into the product's Warehouse Location field in ShipStation, matched on SKU.
- Pick lists sort by bin. ShipStation can sort pick lists by Warehouse Location, so the list follows your aisles. How to set that up.
- Moves just work. Rearrange the warehouse, update the bin in Shopify, and the next pick list is already right.
Why not just put the bin in the SKU?
It works on day one and gets expensive the first time you rearrange. SKUs are supposed to stay stable, and reports, integrations and your accountant all assume they will. The full comparison of the three fixes is in How to get Shopify bin locations onto ShipStation pick lists.
Who it's for
- Shopify stores that ship through ShipStation and pick from its pick lists.
- Catalogs from a few hundred to several thousand products, including products with many variants.
- Teams that move stock around and are tired of re-importing location spreadsheets.
What setup looks like
- A short call to look at your catalog, where bins live today, and how SKUs line up between Shopify and ShipStation.
- I set up the bin metafield (or map the one you already use) and fix any SKU mismatches with you.
- The sync goes live on its own server, scheduled to your hours, with alerts if a run fails.
Questions
Do I have to change my SKUs or barcodes?
No. Your bins stay in a Shopify product metafield, and your SKUs and barcodes stay as they are. The sync only writes ShipStation's Warehouse Location field.
How often does it sync?
On a schedule, typically every 30 minutes, so a bin you change in Shopify shows up on the next pick list without anyone re-importing a file.
What if a product's SKU doesn't match between Shopify and ShipStation?
Products are matched on SKU, so mismatches are flagged instead of guessed. I'll help you clean them up during setup. See keeping SKUs matched.
Is this an app I install from the App Store?
Not today. It's set up for your store and runs on its own small server, kept up to date for you.
What does it cost?
A one-time setup fee plus a flat monthly fee, quoted for your catalog size. Email me your rough product count and I'll send a number.
